Vuolenkoski calling

We spent a day and a half in Stockholm in the end and had our first meal out of this trip. We decided we ought to try something different so we had 4 types of pickled herring and gravlax as starters and reindeer strips in a rich mushroom sauce and deer rack of ribs as mains. We shared all the dishes.

Stockholm calling

Its been very eventful so far but we have arranged for the new wheel to be delivered to Finland so we just have to make it there. We spent the afternoon in Gothenburg and visited the Röhsska Design museum which was full of lovely Skandinavian stuff. It took us a while to escape Gothenburg. Denmark was great for cycle paths, every effort is made to keep you seperate from the cars.

Gothenburg calling

We had a slow start in the UK due to our pedals initially being out of sync, but we got of to a good start. The UK was fairly dull but we did find some interesting leafy bits inside the M25 north of London. As we pack up in Zagreb we find a mouse in my pannier, but it has to go, no freeloaders are allowed. The campsite is South of Zagreb so to get North we have to cycle through the city. We use cycle routes we spotted from the bus the day before, avoiding the horrendous route we took in.

Zagreb calling

After Ljubljana we head North West to Bled, Slovenias number one tourist location. We stay there 2 days and do a days ride without luggage which is a pleasant rest. We climb the foothills of the Julian Alps and do our steepest climb yet of 18%. The scenery is lovely but the road surface degrades to gravel and potholes at the top, which makes it harder work for Ian steering.

Ljubljana calling

We had a couple more pleasant days with my cousin and her husband in their house in the country. The address is just a number and the village name as there is only one street. Ian surprised them both by insisting on a DIY fix of various hard labour in hot sunshine, so he earned our keep.
